Six Months In: Investing in the Next Generation at Clarity Wealth Limited

Six months ago, we took a deliberate step into the future of Clarity Wealth Limited.

Like many advice firms, we talk a lot about long-term thinking — for our clients, their families, and their financial futures. Last summer, we decided it was time to apply that same thinking to our own business by investing in graduate talent and building advisers of the future from the ground up.

What followed exceeded even our expectations.

From 400 Applications to Two New Team Members

When we opened applications for our graduate roles, the response was overwhelming. Over 400 applicants applied, each keen to begin a career in financial planning.

From there, we carefully shortlisted candidates based not just on academic ability, but on values, attitude, curiosity, and alignment with how we work at Clarity Wealth Limited. That process led us to invite four exceptional candidates to an in-person assessment day.

The assessment day wasn’t about trick questions or pressure. Instead, it was designed to reflect real life inside our firm — teamwork, communication, problem-solving, and a genuine interest in helping clients make better financial decisions.

From that day, we made the decision to offer roles to two graduatesOliver Larking and Oliver Fox.
(Yes… both called Oliver. It didn’t take long before they became “Oliver L” and “Oliver F” in the office.)

Six months on, it’s clear that was the right call.

Six Months of Real-World Experience

From day one, Oliver and Oliver have been embedded into the heart of the business — not watching from the sidelines, but actively contributing and learning.

Over the past six months, they’ve been involved in:

  • Client servicing, including learning the mechanics of payments in and payments out
  • Liaising directly with product providers and platforms
  • Studying for and sitting their first R0 exams, with one exam already passed
  • Gaining hands-on experience in writing suitability reports
  • Attending client meetings to observe real conversations and outcomes
  • Supporting marketing activity, content, and campaigns
  • Running and participating in weekly team meetings
  • Getting involved in professional connections and networking, often outside office hours

This exposure has given them a practical understanding of what financial planning really looks like — not just in theory, but in practice.

Enthusiasm You Can’t Teach

Technical knowledge can be learned. Systems can be taught. What’s harder to instil is genuine enthusiasm — and that’s been one of the most rewarding parts of the last six months.

Both Olivers have brought real energy, curiosity, and a willingness to get involved. They ask good questions, take feedback seriously, and genuinely want to do things the right way for clients.

In a short space of time, they’ve learned an enormous amount and, just as importantly, they’ve fitted into the team culture extremely well.

The Next Step in Their Journey

As we move into the next phase, Oliver and Oliver are now stepping more closely into supporting the preparation of suitability reports, building confidence in technical detail, structure, and compliance — a key milestone in developing into future advisers.

They’re excited about what lies ahead, and so are we.

Looking Ahead: Recruiting Again This Summer

Given how successful this has been, we’ll be recruiting another graduate in the summer.

This isn’t about short-term capacity. It’s about long-term quality.

By investing early, providing proper support, and exposing graduates to the full breadth of financial planning, we’re building advisers who truly understand our values, our standards, and — most importantly — our clients.

We firmly believe this approach benefits everyone:

  • Our clients, who receive thoughtful, well-prepared advice
  • Our team, who grow together and support one another
  • And the long-term future of Clarity Wealth Limited

Six months in, this journey has already been a great success — and while having two Olivers has caused the odd moment of confusion, we wouldn’t have it any other way.

The journey is only just beginning.
